The customer: Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is responsible for managing rail traffic in Switzerland. With nearly 36,000 employees, SBB transports more than 1.39 million people and 170,000 tons of goods every day. As part of the consolidation of all French-speaking Swiss teams, SBB has moved rail traffic management for Western Switzerland to its new operations center in Renens. Every day, nearly 2,500 trains are managed on more than 800 kilometers of rail lines. The operations center is classified as a vital infrastructure for Switzerland. It must meet stringent safety requirements. JPF is the general contractor for the project.

The challenge: The control center is the most critical location in the operations building. As the true conductor of rail traffic, access to it must be strictly reserved for authorized persons, automatically and 24 hours a day. As part of its inclusivity policy, SBB wants people with reduced mobility (PRM) to be able to access the control center through the same access points as other people. However, this must not come at the cost of lowering the level of security of access control. Furthermore, it is also important to securely manage the flow of material.

The solution: To meet SBB's needs for safety and flexibility, the SMACS FlexMat has been installed. This solution simultaneously secures the flow of people, people with reduced mobility, and equipment. Furthermore, the SMACS FlexMat blends seamlessly into the building's architecture, making its impact invisible and visible. Special modes (cleaning mode, VIP mode, emergency exit mode, etc.) are available.
